Read for Joy's YA Challenge This was such a strange little story. I wanted a hardcover first edition which cost a pretty penny at the time. I'm fairly obsessed with cult U.K film and television from the sixties and seventies, so when I came across The Owl Service, a modern psych-folk band named after Alan Garner's cult novel and TV serial I had high hopes. It concerns three teenagers; step siblings Alison and Roger who are on holiday in Wales and the cooks son Gwyn. A few weeks ago for some reason I kept thinking about The Owl Service by Alan Garner, a book I'd not read since I was at primary school. I must have first read Alan Garner's The Owl Service some forty years ago when I was interested in all things concerning Welsh mythology. Stig of the Dump – one of my favourites too.
